what exactly is a doula?

SUPPORTER- Doulas are trained, experienced professionals that provide continuous physical, emotional, & informational support for parents. Full spectrum doulas, like myself, can provide support before, during and after pregnancy from including up to year postpartum. We focus primarily on our client’s overall wellness and birth preferences
EDUCATOR- Many people go into parenthood with very little education around pregnancy, childbirth & parenting. Doulas can offer plenty of beneficial information to help parents feel better equipped for the journey, empowered to make informed decisions.

ADVOCATE- Doulas play a huge role in making sure families feel heard and seen in whichever setting they choose to give birth. We often act as communicators or mediators between medical staff and our clients to ensure holistic & comprehensive care. Some doulas also advocate on a larger scale for maternal health policies and equitable access to doula support through Medicaid.
